The Rimy occurrence lies in the Zeballos gold camp, on the eastern side of Goldvalley Creek and approximately 2.3 kilometres south-southeast of the creek’s junction with the Zeballos River.

Regionally, the area is underlain by Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic Bonanza Group basaltic to rhyolitic volcanic rocks. Conformably underlying the Bonanza volcanic rocks are limestones and limy clastics of the Triassic to Lower Jurassic Parson Bay Formation (Bonanza and Vancouver groups) and Upper Triassic Quatsino Formation (Vancouver Group), and tholeiitic basalts of the Upper Triassic Karmutsen Formation (Vancouver Group). Dioritic to granodioritic plutons of the Zeballos intrusion phase of the Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite have intruded all older rocks. The Zeballos stock, a quartz diorite phase of the Eocene to Oligocene Mount Washington Plutonic Suite, is spatially related to gold-quartz veining in the area. Bedded rocks are predominantly northwest striking, southwest dipping, and anticlinally folded about a northwest axis.

The three Rimy veins—two of which were explored by adits whereas the third received little work—lie wholly in Eocene quartz diorite that is intruded by a few northeast-trending feldspar porphyry and andesite dikes.

The Main vein was developed by the No. 3 and 4 adits and various surface cuts over a strike distance of 115 metres. The vein strikes 096 degrees with a dip of 80 degrees south and is 2.5 to 7.5 centimetres wide in a shear zone up to 25 centimetres wide. The strongly oxidized vein consists of quartz with streaks of pyrite and arsenopyrite, and lesser sphalerite and galena. Particles of native or free gold have been reported associated with streaks or lenses of sulphides. The vein usually lies near the shear footwall. On the hangingwall, brecciated rock is accompanied by black (graphitic?) gouge. Several northeast-striking comb-quartz sulphide veins diverge from the Main vein, suggesting westward movement of the north block.

The main vein structure is believed to intersect the main Lone Star (MINFILE 092L 015) vein structure to the southwest.

In 1940, sampling of the No. 3 tunnel yielded 73.0 grams per tonne gold over a length of 52.5 metres and a width of 13.2 centimetres, whereas sampling of the No. 4 tunnel yielded 76.4 grams per tonne gold over a length of 9.0 metres and width of 13.8 centimetres (Property File - C.C. Starr [1940-09-16]: Report of Examination of the Rimy Mine).

The second vein, located 98 metres southwest of the Main vein, was explored by the No. 2 adit. The vein strikes east with a dip of 80 degrees south and is 1.0 to 5.0 centimetres wide and accompanied by 5 centimetres of gouge and breccia. The third vein lies approximately 280 metres south of the Main vein. It strikes east-northeast and dips steeply south.

In 1940, sampling of the second vein at a point located 55.5 metres from the No. 2 adit portal assayed 8.11 grams per tonne gold over 9 centimetres (Property File - C.C. Starr [1940-09-16]: Report of Examination of the Rimy Mine).

In 1981, sampling (7977) of the No. 3 adit yielded up to 29.95 grams per tonne gold, 20.90 grams per tonne silver, 0.152 per cent lead and 0.194 per cent zinc over a length of 1.2 metres and a width averaging 1.00 centimetre, whereas sampling (7976) of the No. 4 adit yielded up to 29.64 grams per tonne gold, 114.50 grams per tonne silver, 1.190 per cent lead and 0.104 per cent zinc over a length of 1.2 metres and width averaging 1.25 centimetres (Property File - Angle Gold Exploration Ltd. In 1983, reserves of approximately 2177 tonnes grading 10.6 grams per tonne gold were reported from the No. 3 and 4 adits on the main vein (Property File - Angle Gold Exploration Ltd. [1983-06-08]: Report on the Angle Gold Exploration Ltd. Zeballos Property).

Prior to 1938, 17.2 tonnes of development ore had been shipped and yielded 1369 grams gold and 1586 grams silver (Bulletin 27, page 101).

The Rimy No. 1 through 8 claims were staked in 1934 and 1935 by Man-of-War Mines Ltd. During 1937 through 1939, two adits (no. 3 and 4) were driven on the main vein at elevations of approximately 795 and 750 metres, respectively, and were each greater than 58.5 metres in length. A third adit (no. 2) was driven on the second vein at an elevation of 672 metres and for a length of 24.0 metres. All three adits are located on the Rimy No. 3 claim. The claims were Crown granted in 1942. In 1953, Man-O-War Mines Ltd. examined the area.

In 1978, Golden Hinde Mines Ltd. prospected the areas the Paladin group. During 1980 thourgh 1983, the area was examined by Ange Gold Exploration Ltd. In 1989, Canalaska Resources prospected and mapped the area as part of the Central Zeballos property.
